Daribha Lyndem - Aesthetically Pleasing

by Aditi Rathore |

Meet Daribha! A customs officer based in Mumbai, she is a multi hyphenate in the truest sense. In the little time that our busy professional lives allow us, this wonderful lady manages to pack in occasional stand up comedy, create beautiful rugs and clothing, while also sharing some brilliant bits on design, décor, styling, makeup, skincare and a whole gamut of fascinating topics.

Our discovery of her has been gradual, courtesy her amazing Instagram page (all hail the Insta gods!). Needless to say, her aesthetics are a notch above all else.
We caught up with her on a pleasant Sunday morning and learnt a few things that make her so irresistibly endearing, as she strolled through the quaint lanes of Mumbai in her favourite Wildflower piece.

Your Insta bio is quite intriguing. We’d love to know more about you.
I am a Deputy Commissioner of Customs, posted in Mumbai, with a keen interest in anything Design.

Where did you grow up? Do you think that place had an impact on your personality?
I am from Shillong. It did influence my personality definitely. It is where my familial and cultural ties are. I cannot extricate where I am from, from who I am.

If you had to choose one word to describe your personal style, what would it be?
All-embracing.

What kind of clothing do you enjoy wearing the most?
Classic pieces that never go out of style, like a black blazer and a white t shirt.

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend?
Nice food, good company and a really shitty horror film.

How do you dress up for work? Being a government official, do you feel the pressure to align your fashion choices with what’s often touted as a norm? Do you find it restricting in anyway?

There are so many unsaid restrictions when you work for the government. They want you look like this good, prudent, Indian woman in a crisp white cotton saree. I usually mix this up, I will wear this prudent cotton saree but with a pair of sneakers and a patterned crop top I get stitched. I usually wear plain salwar suits with really bright dupattas. I like a good, colourful dupatta.

People or accounts you love to stalk on Instagram?

I love Brittany Bathgate, Alia (Matargahst), Raw Mango, and Trinny Woodhall for style, Apartment Therapy for interiors, Allana Davidson and Katie Jane Hughes for makeup, and a lot of cat content.

If not for your current profession, what would you be doing?

I would have been an interior designer.

How do you disconnect when you need to?

I play with my cats and watch Stephen Colbert make some jokes on the Late Show.

What do you like the most about your Wildlfower dress?

I like that it's so comfortable and unrestrictive. Also I like a good red and pink combo
